33rd IPMA World Congress in Tokyo – postponed

Every year, we at IPMA look forward to connecting with the global community of fellow project managers and sharing our vision of enabling all projects to succeed. Given the present and expected global health situation and the uncertainty in international affairs in 2022, together with the host – the Society of Project Management- in Japan (SPM), it was decided to postpone the joint congress of 33rd IPMA World Congress/ProMAC2021 in Tokyo, Japan for a few years.

We understand this may come as a surprise or disappointment, not only to the presenters, reviewers, partners, volunteers, and project management professionals who were due to attend but also to members of 71 IPMA Member Associations.

Since the World Congress is an incredibly important event for IPMA and one of our favourite ways to celebrate project management success with our global community, this is not a decision that was taken lightly. However, we need to prioritize the health and safety of those attending, contributing, and involved in this event. We explored other ways to hold the World Congress in 2022, but we feel it is important to host an inclusive event and ensure that all members of the international project management community have equal opportunities to attend the event in person.

We at IPMA will continue to strive toward our purpose, enabling a world where all projects succeed and are working hard to deliver our next World Congress in Denmark in September 2023.

Rest assured that we at IPMA and SPM remain committed to advancing the project profession forward regardless of any issues or global uncertainty.

With kind regards,
Joop Schefferlie, IPMA President, and Hiroshi Kodama, SPM President
